Bubi District Units in Massive National Cleanup Campaign

INYATHI, Zimbabwe – In a vibrant display of civic responsibility and environmental stewardship, the Bubi District community turned out in large numbers on Friday, 9 January 2026, to participate in the first National Cleanup Campaign of the year.

The event, which aligns with the national directive to keep Zimbabwe clean, saw a robust collaboration between the Bubi Rural District Council (RDC) staff, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), local business owners, and various district stakeholders.

A Unified Effort for a Cleaner Environment

The day began early as participants gathered at the Inyathi Business Centre and surrounding wards. Armed with brooms, shovels, and bin bags, the diverse group worked tirelessly to clear litter, sweep shop fronts, and declutter public drainage systems.

Key participants included:

Bubi RDC Staff: Led by council officials, the staff provided logistical support and waste collection vehicles to ensure all gathered refuse was disposed of at designated sites.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP): Officers took time off their regular duties to join the community, emphasizing that a clean environment is a safer environment for everyone.

Local Shop Owners: Business operators at the Turk Mine and Inyathi centers took the lead in cleaning their immediate surroundings, recognizing the importance of hygiene for attracting customers.

Community Stakeholders: Local traditional leaders and youth groups also participated, highlighting the cross-generational commitment to the district’s "Vision 2030" goals.

Promoting Sustainability

During the event, representatives from the Bubi RDC Natural Resources Department took the opportunity to educate residents on waste segregation and the dangers of illegal dumping.

"Our goal is not just to clean today, but to foster a culture of cleanliness that lasts throughout the year. When we work together the council, the police, and our business partners we build a healthier Bubi for our children." Statement from a Bubi RDC Representative.

The cleanup campaign is part of a broader strategy by the Bubi RDC to improve waste management infrastructure and promote environmental sustainability within the district.

Looking Ahead

The success of the January 9th exercise sets a positive tone for 2026. Council officials expressed their gratitude to all stakeholders who donated their time and resources, reminding the public that the National Cleanup Day remains a monthly priority held every first Friday.
